If you want to, and only if you want to

Keeping the lights on

Everything I publish is free, and it stays free. The plugins, the tools, the write-ups — none of it is behind anything, and none of it ever will be.

What is not free is finding out. The testing, the breaking, the rebuilding, and a rack that has to be running for any of it to mean anything. That part comes out of my pocket, which is fine — it is how I have always learned. But if something here saved you an afternoon, this is where you can put a bit back.

What it actually pays for
The lab

Firewalls, hypervisors, storage and a GPU or two. You cannot write honestly about a thing you have only read about — every write-up on this site started with breaking something real, usually more than once.

Electricity

The unglamorous one, and the one that actually adds up. Servers that stay on so the testing is real rather than theoretical.

Game servers

I host game servers for friends I have picked up over decades of gaming and being online. They are free to play on and will stay that way — but they are not free to run.

Things to try

Licences, hardware to test against, and whatever has just appeared and is worth an evening. Running models locally, mostly, at the moment.

Time

Listed last and deliberately not priced. The code is a gift; the hosting bill is arithmetic.

Ways to help

The bit most of these pages leave out

Nothing changes if you do not. There is no tier, no supporter badge, no early access and nothing held back. Anyone who donates gets exactly what anyone who does not gets, which is all of it.

I would rather you used the thing, found it useful, and told someone else. If you are a student, between jobs, or it is simply a tight month — close this page without a second thought. It will still all be here.

And if you are a business getting real value out of one of these plugins, you are the one I would gently point at the monthly option on Ko-fi. You know who you are.
